Albert B. Cleage Jr. - Sepia Saturday

Today I have posted a page from a small photo album that featured a page for each member of my father's family, plus some family friends. The contact size photos were not very carefully pasted in and are not identified or dated. Judging by the ages of the people, I think they were taken about 1938. Which makes my father, Albert B. Cleage Jr (Also known as "Toddy" to family and friends), 27. The theme this week is a man sleeping while posing for a photograph.

I had initially thought that this was a full page of unidentified photographs! Now, that would be a challenge. What fun to have entire pages focusing on a specific individual! All that is left is to guess at the dates.

Albert looks so peaceful in his slumber!

Luckily for me, I can identify my father and aunts and uncles and grandparents and even some of the friends. I have been able to get my aunts to identify the friends I didn't know. I guess I should write that somewhere and stick it in the album. All of them seem to be taken in the same year and I put that at 1938 because of the age of my father's youngest sister in the album.

That's a cute picture. It's hard to tell whether he is sitting or lying down, but that looks more like a wall behind him than a floor.

You are lucky! Definitely put notes in the albums. If you use photo-safe interleaving paper it might help protect the photos as well. :)

You couldn't get a better photo than this to illustrate the theme.

Is he asleep, or merely resting and day-dreaming? It’s a lovely sharp image and the other shots seem to have some interesting lighting effects.

Toddy looks very handsome and quite pleased while he sleeps! Very cool themed post!

I didn't realize the page didn't enlarge so I fixed that.
I am pretty sure that my father wasn't really sleeping in a chair leaning against the wall. I think he was faking. Then again, looking at the two other photos that seem to have been taken at the same time, maybe he was just waking up

Your father is so good looking. All of the photos are so good but I love the one of him sleeping - even if he wasn't really asleep.

I think it's when you put together a number of informal portraits of an individual, preferably from several sittings, that one starts to get a feeling for that person's character, so important if one didn't know him or her, and therefore have no memories to jog. Thank you for sharing it.

No matter if he was psoing or faking slumber he does look peaceful and so young....

I was going to ask how he managed to sleep standing up but looking at the other shots, he was no doubt sitting in a chair. And, as you say, probably faking. So good looking. :)

There is such an incredible sweetness to that sleep.

Such a handsome man. I am amazed at how you are able to come up with family photos for just about any theme (with the possible exception of trains). :)

I did a post with trains but it was before all the themed train prompts!

Oh Toddy is having such a peaceful sleep, despite being propped up against the wall. He must have been so tired :-) Jo
